MAKARA BIRD VIEW LODGE

Country Tours owns and operates one of the best wilderness lodges in the wild forests of Ambua-Tari Southern Highlands Provinces. It was officially opened in June , 2011 by Rt Honorable Guma Wao-Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture of the Papua New Guinea National Government. It was  officated by other VIPs including William Bando CEO Hela Transitional Authority, Jerry Agus-Director Planning & Policy-Papua New Guinea Tourism Promotion Authority and other local leaders.

This new lodge is named “Makara Bird View Lodge”. Makara is named after the river that flows beside the lodge.The lodge has 14 self contained and spacious rooms with hot water and heated communal lounge room. There is also a kitchen, dining room, and a wrap around balcony with bird feeding stations. It has private shower and toilet facilities in each room. Guests can observe and feed the many beautiful birds, as well as view the spectacular waterfall. Makara Lodge is built within the rainforest and is a superb birders and nature lovers’ Paradise. It’s the gateway to Tari from Mt Hagen and Mendi, the home of Huli wigman. It takes only a minute to walk into the lodge when you get off from our pick up bus or when you are driving to the lodge on your own. It takes you 30 minutes to get to the lodge from Tari airport. (Air Niugini www.airniugini.com.pg runs weekly services). The lodge has a  24 hour electricity with back up genset. Sufficient conference facilities and secure car parking area. For safety the lodge has 24 hour security by the locals. However there is no security alert on this part of the world. The architecture and style of the buildings are built mostly by natural material to suit the setting. Meals are of western and local cuisine prepared by Chef Henry Apia who was in the kitchen for over 20 years with his fast emloyers. With this vast wealth of experience he can make your stay a home, sweet home with good quality meals. There are Lodge based nature or cultural tour packages available. However  we can tailor tour packages including this new lodge with others around the country for you. Meet the most senior birding guide Mr. Benson Hale who also hails from this area and manages this new lodge. He joined Country Tours in May, 2011.
